Manassas’s second annual Viking Festival will be coming in May. The event will be a Scandinavian educational and cultural event depicting the Viking era.
Local Viking reenactment groups will be demonstrating archery, period fighting techniques, and wool-working in a Viking village. There will be tool making and iron working demonstrations along with master woodcarvers demonstrating their whittling skills.
The Raptor Conservancy of Virginia will once again be bringing raptors such as hawks, owls, and the gyrfalcon. Hopefully, the lawn will also have a few Icelandic sheep and horses.
The Crossjacks will be the musical entertainment and ‘Sporio’ Icelandic folk dancers, Nordic dancers from Washington D.C., and the Phoenix Irish Dancers will also perform.
Local restaurants will be sending their special Nordic foods and drinks. Vendors with Viking-themes will be selling imitations of Viking-era items such as swords, shields and clothing. Phoenix rising Apothecary will return this year will over 200 resins, roots, herbs and crystals. The giant Viking ship will be on the lawn again this year.
Everyone is encouraged to don their Viking attire and come join in the fun. Pictures taken at events such as these are colorful and can be taken to local Print shops for a little poster printing.
The Manassas Viking Festival will be Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm at the Manassas Museum Lawn and Harris Pavilion rain or shine.
