Manassas celebrates the Fourth of July with a party

The City of Manassas will be celebrating Independence Day with a traditional holiday bash.

Contests, live music, food, and carnival rides will be part of the day’s activities. The event will be free.

The day’s festivities will begin with a bicycle rodeo in which children are encouraged to trim their bikes in 4th of July colors. After the rodeo, local cooks can participate in the Apple Pie Baking Contest, while others may want to enter the watermelon eating contest. Pictures taken during these contests would make interesting photos for the city to put into its next set of visitor’s Brochures. There will also be food and carnival rides, and the fireworks display will be the highlight of the evening.

The event is scheduled for July 4 with a rain date of July 5 at the Old Town Manassas Train Depot and the lawn outside of the Manassas Museum at 9431 West Street. The afternoon activities will start at 3:00 pm, with the fireworks starting around 9:15 pm to round things off. Parking in the museum parking lot and the Commuter Lot F will be reserved for handicap parking. Free parking for the public will be available on Main Street at the Balwin Elementary School, the commuter lots on Price William Street, and on Wellington Road at Metz Middle School.
