Our Mayor, Hall Parish has declared the month of March as Irish History Month and to celebrate the Irish, the 18th annual Greater Manassas St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be marching through downtown Manassas the middle of March.
Pipe and Drum groups will be in abundance. Some of them will be Fairfax County Sheriff’s Coalition Pipe and Drum, Washington Scottish Pipe and Drum, and the Northern Virginia Firefighters Emerald Society Pipe and Drum. These units, flag presentation guards, bands, clubs, organizations, floats, drill, and Irish dance teams will need get introduction Banners and poster printing done in time for the big event.
This year’s Grand Marshall will be Philip R. Nannery Jr., who has grandparents and great-grandparents who came to the U.S. from Ireland. He also serves as this year’s Parade Chairman.
The parade costs around $21,000 a year and is sponsored by the community and local businesses. These groups support it through buying spaces for their ad specialties in the Parade Book presented by Inisfail Inc., the 501c3 certified nonprofit organization that is the holding company and organizing the parade.
The parade will step off March 11 at 11:00 am and go until 12:30 pm. It will start at the intersection of Quarry Road and Prescott Avenue, turn right onto Center Street, proceed through downtown Manassas, and end at West Street before it reaches the Harris Pavilion.
