Local middle school presents continental festival

In just over a week, the African American Foundation of Prince William County will be inviting all of Manassas to its 24th Annual Manassas African American Heritage Festival—a family friendly celebration of African American culture and arts.

The festival first began back in 1990 and has grown significantly. Last year, attendance topped 4,000, and more than 125 exhibitors will tempt attendees this time round. These include school and college displays, business Expos, automotive shows, youth groups, and plenty of food vendors.

It will also have a Mane Event Hair and Fashion show, and an authors’ corner for local writers to share and discuss their work. The Marines will be showcasing a Hummer vehicle and will offer games, prizes, and the ‘Chin up Challenge’.

Little ones can enjoy free activities and students can pick up school supplies with no costs attached. Live entertainment will include soul bands, hand dancing, and male choruses. With so much eye-catching material on show, the event should prove a good opportunity for photographers to capture images for the City of Manassas to forward to professional brochure printers.

Following tradition, this event will be held on the first Saturday in August, which this year is the 2nd, from noon to 6:00 pm at Grace Metz Middle School, which can be found at 9950 Wellington Road, Manassas.
