Historic Manassas celebrates America
Historic Downtown Manassas will be the place to be for Independence Day this year.
The City of Manassas and Historic Manassas, Inc. will be sponsoring the annual event. Activities will be around the train depot, the Manassas Museum and the Harris Pavilion. Kids’ rides will start one hour before the food and novelty vendors open for business.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite lawn chairs and blankets and come early to get the best viewing spots on the museum lawn.
Three contests are on the agenda. The first will be the apple pie contest. Only amateur bakers will be allowed to participate. All pie must be homemade and come with the recipe. Prizes of $100, $75 and $50 will be awarded. The bicycle decorating contest will be limited to children between 2 years old and 10. Awards will be given for most patriotic, creative, and overall.
The watermelon eating contest will have a 10-17-year-old division and an 18 and up category. Usually, winners of these contests want their pictures taken for later poster printing.
Although the event will be free, a new venue has been added this year that will have an admission fee. There will be a Rooftop Party on the parking garage’s top deck. This area will have games, beverages special food and the best view of the fireworks.
Celebrate America will be July 4th from 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm. The fireworks will begin at 9:15 pm.
