The POPUMC Hiking Group is taking its February day hike at the Manassas National Battlefield Park on the Second Manassas Battlefield Loop.
Although the Second Manassas Loop is roughly six and a half miles long, the hike route will be whittled down to around five. Some of the hike will be trails not found on the map and there will be a little bushwhacking. Restrooms are available at the two- and three-mile points.
Participants need to come supplied with snacks and water, and should dress weather-appropriately including sturdy hiking shoes. Masks are required.
Hikers can meet either at the Prince of Peace UMC at 6299 Token Forest Drive at 8:00 am or at Mathews Hill Visitor Center parking area #4 in the Manassas National Battlefield Park 12521 Lee HWY between 8:15 am and 8:30 am on Saturday, February 6. There will be no carpooling. The hike should begin around 8:30 am and end about 11:15 am.
The group has been hiking in around 90 parks, preserves and trail systems around the Manassas area since 2018. It was established with a mission to see new places, help people meet new friends, and improve general health.
Groups that hike together often have T-Shirts printed with their Logo Design or a graphic design featured on the fronts.
Hoping to get a hike in every month, the group’s next hiking event after this will be at Blooms Park, 9701 Manassas Drive on Saturday, March 6, beginning at 8:00 am.
