City officials readying for annual Fourth of July party
The City of Manassas invites everyone to its annual Fourth of July Fireworks 2014 Independence Day party.
This year’s festivities will feature rides, live music, face painting, funnel cakes, and other carnival food, as well as an apple pie baking contest and a red, white, and blue hayride. Of course, fireworks will also be featured.
Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs, and to arrive early to secure a prime spot for the fireworks. The display is billed as one of the largest pyrotechnic presentations in Northern Virginia. Viewers may want to bring cameras with special filters to capture spectacular displays for future poster printing. There will also be dancing on the lawn to the country beat of Jay Henley and the Stone Broke Band, who will be performing most of the afternoon and evening in the pavilion.
Parking is reserved for the handicapped in commuter Lot F (on the corner of Prince William and Main Streets), and the Manassas Museum parking lot. Everyone else is welcome to use the other commuter lots along Prince William Street, as well as those at Metz Middle School and Balwin Elementary School.
This year’s festivities will begin at 4pm at the Old Town Manassas Train Depot, Harris pavilion & the Manassas Museum Lawn, 9431 West Street. Rain date will be July 5. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 9:15pm.
