Fairfax event to benefit community members

An early May event is being held to aid area residents who are in need.

The Feed Fairfax 5K is an annual run organized by Feed Fairfax, along with several community partners. The event is held to provide food and raise funds for residents that don’t have the food they need every day. The initiative was started six years ago. One in three children attending the county schools go through insecurity with food.

In addition to the race element, the attendees will be able to help out with assembling “Power Packs” that will be given to kids in the elementary schools around the area. These will have seven meals inside them, providing food for the kids and their families.

The 5k has a division for adults and one for those who are 18 or younger. The one mile “fun run/walk” also has the same options. Prizes will be given out to either the first place finisher or the top three finishers, depending on the age group.

Prices after April 17th will be $30 for the mile and $40 for the 5k. For the races involving kids, the price stays at $15, while on race day the adult races will increase by $5. Purchases are available through RunSignUp.

Participants will be given several items. These promotional gifts include a race bib, medal, and shirt. The event will be held in Fairfax’s Greenbriar neighborhood. The gathering point will be the Planet Fitness location’s parking lot. The race will start at 8:00am on May 2nd.
