An event taking place in early March is giving Fairfax residents a chance to try out a creative activity that can be tailored to their individual stories.
The Junk Journaling Workshop is an event from Tradeworx Academy. The activity focuses on a combination of art and personal expression, while also providing a use for materials that would typically end up in the trash, thus aiding the natural environment.
Wendy Frothingham and Heather Grimstead will serve as the instructors for the event. The attendees will learn techniques used in junk journaling like page building, binding, layering, and embellishment. Everyone will get to make a journal that fits their style and includes whatever topics they wish.
The instructors and venue will provide all necessary materials, so guests only need to bring themselves. The mix will contain vintage and modern items like magazine clippings, sheet music, and maps. Attendees will get to keep their journal, along with a kit that will allow them to continue working on the remaining pages after the event.
Tickets are available on the Tradeworx Academy website for $85 per person. The venue is the Fairfax location of Tradeworx Academy, which is inside Fair Oaks Mall. Many art classes use flyer printing as a promotion technique. The lesson will run for three hours, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, on Sunday, March 8.
