Preparations underway for annual summer festival
All of Orem is gearing up for the annual Orem Summerfest 2014. The traditional trio of fun, food, and fireworks will mark this year’s festivities. Admission is free.
Twenty-three events are scheduled for the two-day celebration. Kicking things off will be the Rise and Dine picnic family breakfast. Two dollars a ticket or $10 per family will get people all the pancakes they can eat. It will be sponsored and presented by Sierra West jewelers and the Orem Rotary Club, with profits going to buy dictionaries for elementary school students. Other activities include a ‘baby contest’, kids’ crafts, the Firefighter’s 5k Fun Run, a car show, and the Children’s Parade.
The Grand Parade will be on the final evening, and will consist of city officials, marching bands, cheerleading units, dance troupes, and floats. This year’s theme will be ‘The Power of Harmony’. Grand Marshals will be Suzanne and Alan Osmond.
Experimental aircraft will do a flyover, with performances provided by Mark and Mike Patey. Banner printing for units in the parade is in full swing, and a fireworks display will be given on the second night.
The festivities will be held in the City Center Park on June 13th - 14th. The Grand Parade will start at 7pm on 800 E and 400 South Streets, and travel to Center Street and west onto State Street.
