What's Happening in Orem, UT…

Orem to meet history face to face

For the eighth year America’s Freedom Festival will be holding a Colonial Fest to celebrate our nation’s Independence Day. This will be a four-day event and admission will be free.

Artisans, demonstrations and interactive maritime exhibits will be showing activities in Colonial daily life. Some of the other exhibits will be a blacksmith, broom maker, spoon maker, an apothecary, potter and bee keeper. Others will be a lace maker, chandler and a wood worker. There will be demonstrations and displays about women’s clothing, frontier life and Colonial home life. Visitors will be encouraged to join in public trials and great debates. Militia enthusiasts will enjoy the cannon firing on the green and the gun displays.

There will be a grand Mayflower replica and a Colonial School where children can actually attend. The teachers will be from the Alpine School District. Children will also be able to play games and do chores children their age did in early America. The Old South Church will be the place for old-fashioned storytelling.

This event may be a good opportunity for some professional photographer to get pictures for later stationery printing.

The Colonial Fest will be held from July 1st through July 4th at SCERA Park, 600 South State Street here in Orem. It will run from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm.
