The Orem Heritage Commission invites the public to an hour-long patriotic program to commemorate Memorial Day.
Retired USAF Major Wilbur A. Drake will be the guest speaker on the day.
The Orem American Legion Post 72 and the Mountain View High School student council will be presenting the flag exchange ceremony. The Pledge of Allegiance will be given by Matthew Holland, the president of Utah Valley University. Following that will be a 21-gun salute.
Mayor Jerry Washburn will be the master of ceremonies. Music will be in the patriotic vein, with special numbers presented by the quartet Suspension.
Children will get a chance to inspect a fire engine, World War II military vehicles, and a rescue truck. Parents may want to bring cameras to get pictures of their kids on their favorite vehicles for later poster printing.
Memorial Day will also be the final day of the Utah County Memorial Day Baseball Tournament hosted by the Rocky Mountain School of Baseball. Teams from all around the county will be competing over the weekend in nine locations including Orem.
The Memorial Day ceremony will be on Monday, May 30 at the Orem City Cemetery’s War Memorial, 800 E. 1200 North and is scheduled for starting at 9:00 am. The tournament here in Orem will be played at the City Center Complex, 200 East Center Street, and Mountain View High School, 340 South 600 West.
