The Orem Symphony will be presenting an evening of the classic Carmina Burana. Also on the program will be a poetic single-movement short piece for violin and a newly penned concerto, all under the baton of Kazuki Yamada. The event will be in late March.
Madeline Adkins, the symphony’s concertmaster, has organized an exhilarating evening and will perform the violin solo in Vaughan Williams “The Lark Ascending.”
Adkins has also commissioned a violin concerto by jazz, classical composer Nathan Lincoln de Cusatis titled “The Maze.” The piece musically explores the landscape, geological and archeological features of Canyonlands National Park’s Maze district. This evening will be the world premiere performance of the new work.
The largest portion of the evening will be turned over to the performance of Carl Orff’s scenic cantata Carmina Burana. This electrifying piece is based on 24 of the 254 medieval poems found in the Carmina Burana – a 11th or 12th century manuscript. Soloists will be soprano Amy Owens, tenor Brian Stucki, and baritone Christopher Clayton. Along with the Utah Symphony Chorus, will be the Choristers of The Madeleine Choir School, and the University of Utah’s Chamber and A Cappella choirs.
Organizers for evenings such as this usually have special program brochure printing done beforehand so as to give out special commemoratives to their patrons.
This special performance has been scheduled for 7:30 pm, March 26 at the Noorda Center for the Performing Arts, 800 West University Parkway.
