Many Orem runners will be starting the new year with the Frigid 5K and Penguin Plunge coming at the end of January. After running the 5K, adventurous runners can opt to take a plunge in Utah State Lake.
Registration for the 5K only will be $32.95. Swag for this event will include race shirts sporting the Frigid 5K graphic design, finisher medals, temporary tattoos, and decals. The 5K & Plunge will cost $38.95 and registration will include all the above plus a Plunge keychain. Registration for the Plunge only will be $13.95. The swag for the Penguin Plunge will be race shirts and plunge keychains.
A square of ice will be cut out of Utah Lake for the Penguin Plunge, and a safety cage will be inserted into the water. First aid stations will be available if needed.
A celebration area at the 5K finish line will have water, doughnuts, hot cocoa, and Powerade.
Place medals and free entry into next year’s race will go to the top three overall male and female finishers at 9:45 am, and to winners in each age division at 9:50 am.
It will all take place on January 29. The starting line for the Frigid 5K will be at the Provo Boat Harbor, 4400 W Center Street, Provo. The 5K and Plunge begin at 9:00 am and the Penguin Plunge will start at 10:00 am.
