Orem readies for folkdance festival
Orem folk dance enthusiasts are putting on their dancing shoes in order to get ready for the upcoming Springville World Folkfest. This will be the 31st year for the festival, which has the reputation as Western United States’ biggest international folk dance festival.
This year, the festival has invited groups from Romania, Peru, Kenya, Hungary, Georgia, Ecuador, and Colombia. It has also invited dance ensembles from Belarus, Algeria, Indonesia, and Chile.
The fun will begin with an evening street dance that will be open to the public. Vendors and booth operators will arrive the next morning as the pre-show entertainment starts. Opening ceremonies will begin the festival. The afternoon on the second day of the festival will have three countries – Belarus, Austria, and Peru - represented by Community Service Outreach programs around the area. Chile, Ecuador and Indonesia will be represented by Community Service Outreach organizations the following afternoon, and Romania will be the featured country on the closing day.
All the evening performance will be presented by the invited countries. After each evening’s performance, the stage will have an after party for all the performers, host families and ticket holders.
Final performances and closing ceremonies will wrap things up on Saturday. The festival will be from tomorrow, July 30 to Saturday, August 5 in Springville Acres Arts Park, 620 South 1350 East Springville. Interested parties will want to mark their calendars and check the Springville Folkfest website for times.
