Orem in for university-led music this season
Orem will get into the holiday spirit as Doug Smith, a Percussion Area Coordinator and Assistant Professor at Utah Valley University, gets his busy performing schedule lined up for the holiday season.
Smith will begin his holiday performances with the UVU Chamber Choir’s ‘The Voice Within’ concert. The choir will be premiering ‘Song of the Shulamite’. This will be an adaptation of the love poetry found in the Song of Solomon. Soprano Melissa Heath and harpist Janet Peterson will be featured, while Smith will be playing the marimba.
For his next engagement, Smith will be conducting the Percussion UVU as they perform Christmashannukwanzadan?. The program will be a New Year’s Eve to Christmas musical romp.
Smith will then co-conduct ‘Movie Music Magic’ with another UVU faculty member Cheung Chau. This performance will include music from movie classics, and Smith will then perform Sejourne’s Marimba Concerto.
Fans of the musician will want to mark their calendars for these three performances. ‘The Voice Within’ will be presented at the Orem City Public Library, 50 North State Street on November 18 at 7:00 pm. ‘Christmashannukwanzadan?’ will be in the UVU Sorensen Center Grande Ballroom on November 29th, starting at 7:30 pm. ‘Movie Music Magic’ will also be in the UVU Sorensen Student Center Grand Ballroom, but on December 2 at 7:30 pm.
