Orem gears up for summer
It is almost time for America’s Freedom Festival and Orem Summerfest, which come in the first week in June.
The Summerfest concert this year will showcase Jenny Oaks Baker, a Grammy-nominated violinist, and her musically gifted Family of Four. They will share the stage with the Utah Valley Symphony and Dallyn Vail Bayles.
The 2018 Big Baby Contest will award prizes for the first, second, and third place winners in nine categories. Categories will be 0-6 months (Girl and Boy) and divisions in 6-months intervals up to 36 months. There will also be Cutest Superhero, Most Patriotic, Best Costume, and Multiples categories. Proud parents of the winners are sure to be taking pictures of their babies to nearby print shops for duplicates and to stationery printers for personalized stationery.
A Business Showcase will bring 50 local companies in contact with patrons and prospective customers.
Summerfest would not be complete without the annual Grand Parade. Thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets as bands, vehicles, dance and drill teams, and floats pass by.
The Summerfest concert will be June 6 starting at 8:00 pm at the Scera Shell Outdoor Theatre, 699 South Street; the Big Baby Contest will be on June 9 from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at Scera Park; and The Business Showcase will be June 8 and 9.
The Grand Parade will step off on Saturday, June 9 at 7:00 pm at 800 E and end at Center Street.
