Library to host speaker series

Utah Valley University Fulton Library at 800 West University Parkway in Orem is hosting its free Roots of Knowledge Speaker Series on Thursdays.

Tomorrow, January 20 at 2:00 pm, the series will have La Beene, UVU’s Associate Professor Costume Design and Technology discussing clothing tailoring as it pertains to culture and meaning. Beene will explain how a person’s psychological and philosophical views can be expressed by the way they dress.

The following Thursday, January 27, Jenna Nigro, Assistant Professor of French and West African History, will discuss women in the French Revolution.

Dr. Sally Rocks will discuss rewards and risks of plastics on February 3. Other February speakers will discuss insurance and risk management on February 10, storytelling as visual literacy on February 17, and gender logic on February 24.

March topics will include educational equity through culture and roots of knowing on March 3; drawing connections between the movie Hidden Figures, origami, and space on March 17; using windows to connect students to stories and understandings on March 24; and Albinism in Africa on March 31.

April will have three speakers. Their topics will include reshaping classrooms by using alternatives to thinking about memory on April 7; comparison of Gauguin and Seurat works as they relate to identity, gender, and power during French colonialism on April 14, and crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending on April 21.

All but the first talk start at 1:00 pm. Organizers of talks often arrange flyer printing to get the word out.
