Library hosts an evening of Spooks and Saints
As calendars turn to October, thoughts turn to Halloween. To get everyone in the spirit of the season, our local library is hosting an evening of eerie and frightful storytelling.
Cherie Davis will be telling tales from her book Spooks and Saints – Intriguing Ghost Legends of Salt Lake City, Utah.
This newly released book has been 10 years in the making and 10 more years in the research. Storyteller Davis got interesting in the art when she first attended the Utah Storytelling Guild Story Swap. Soon after, she joined the guild and began to learn the craft, after which she started sharing her talent with programs at the library, and other places around town. Eventually, she was in demand around the region. One of her projects was the Story Tours of Salt Lake. While conducting these tours, she began to get the idea for her book.
For 10 years, she collected stories she researched and from other ghost story researchers in Salt Lake City. She began to agree with Kathryn Windham who said “You don’t have to believe in ghosts to enjoy a good ghost story.”
Soon, her collection grew too large to be covered in one tour so she decided to write a book. She will be relating her favorite tales Tuesday, October 11 at the Orem Library, 58 North State Street, from 7:00 pm until 8:00.
