Christmas comes to University Place
Orem’s University Place will be ushering in the holiday season with its 5th annual Gingerbread House competition, Lite-Brite-Nite, and Storytime with Mrs. Claus.
Local gingerbread artists have submitted their gingerbread houses, all decked out in their candy and icing fineness, for the 5th Annual Gingerbread House Competition. Winner will receive $1,500, second place $500, and third place $250. Winners in categories – Most Unique Structure, Use of Candy, Best Theme, Best Use of Space that surrounds the house, and Most Holiday Spirit will receive $100 University Gift Cards.
Only bakers and families may attend the Awards Ceremony on November 21, but the houses will remain on display until November 28 in the vacant lot beside Maurices.
Registration will be required for Storytime with Mrs. Claus. Little ones are invited to listen to a book read by Mrs. Claus and have a holiday carol singalong. Afterwards, everyone will receive treats and make a take-home holiday craft.
Storytime with Mrs. Claus will be November 30 to December 2 beginning at 10:00 am in Lodge Court. Parents who take pictures at events such as this will still have time to get the prints to local stationery printers to have holiday cards made.
On December 12, University Place’s Orchard will have a Lite-Brite-Nite. Everyone is invited to operate the giant Lite-Brite toy. Spectators can enjoy the result, which will be synchronized with a live DJ. The venue will have firepits, refreshments, and live-side entertainment. Lite-Brite-Nite will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
