Area hosts traditional storytelling festival
Orem young and old are getting an opportunity to hear storytellers from all over the world, as well as those professionals right here locally. Billed as the ‘Largest Storytelling festival in the West’, the 25th annual Timpanogos Storytelling Festival got underway yesterday.
Tens of thousands of visitors will have an opportunity to enjoy professional storytellers’ tales, food, live music, pottery, and puppetry. Stories will range from fables and fairytales of other cultures, to tall tales, personal stories, and historical renderings. The festival will take place in five locations throughout the area.
The festival’s Online Market Place has no doubt been busy doing poster printing and has many different posters depicting themes, stories, and crafts from this and past years’ storytelling events available. Children will not only enjoy the fables, tall tales, and fairytales; they will also see jugglers and puppet-shows between the storytelling sessions.
Potters will be on hand with demonstrations and equipment for people to try their hand at making cups, plates, and other pottery items. A taste of bluegrass, big band, acoustic and smooth jazz will be entertaining audiences throughout the weekend with live performances. Workshops will be running as well.
The festival will run from Thursday, August 27 to Saturday, August 30, from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm each day at Mr. Timpanogos Park, Hwy 189 Provo Canyon, Orem.
