San Antonio families learn about healthy living

San Antonio residents had a chance to learn about wellness and healthy living at a free expo recently.

The HEB Grocery Company, LP, known simply as H-E-B, holds an annual health fair. H-E-B is based in San Antonio and has over 350 stories in Texas, as well as northern Mexico. Each year it packs the city's convention center as people come to learn how to improve their health, and this year’s event took place this month.

Attendees were eager to learn about ways to become fit. Luiz Lopez, who brought his two daughters to the event, said they come every year. He feels the expo is a good way to teach his children ways to be health conscious. Kassanda Lopez was appreciative of the fact the event is free, which attracts people who might not otherwise attend.

Attendees had a lot of activities to choose from. They could get health screenings, sample healthy food, watch cooking demonstrations, take part in fitness activities, and win prizes. They could also watch the finale of the 16-week ‘Slimdown Showdown Competition’. HEB customers and employees had spent the last 16 weeks learning to take care of themselves, lose weight, and get healthy, and they revealed the results at the expo.

HEB officials might build on this year's success by working with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents, describing the event and asking people to mark their Calendars for next year.
