San Antonio chooses builder for Hemisfair apartments

AREA Real Estate, a local developer, has been chosen to undertake construction of the first residential project at the Hemisfair site, which is the largest urban park in San Antonio. The overall renovation of the site is being called a “multi-million dollar overhaul” of the area.

In 1968, San Antonio hosted the Hemisfair, am international exposition that ran from April 6 through October 6, and drew more than six million visitors. The site was in downtown San Antonio, and when the fair closed, many structures were left in place. Ever since, the city has been considering options for developing the area.

The project, if approved, would be a public-private partnership, and would call on the developer to construct 163 residential units for mixed-income residents, a parking garage with a total of 418 spaces, of which 238 would be for the public, and 3,200 square feet on the ground floor that would be designated for retail stores and entertainment. Half the units would be rented for 80% of the median income in Bexar County, while the rest would be rented at full market value. The total price for the development is about $25m.

City officials might like to work with a brochure printing company to create marketing Brochures describing the project. They could make them available to both commercial and residential realtors in the city and suburbs.
