San Antonio will do its bit for Mardi Gras with its own twist on the traditional parade, as well as other features for attendees.
The main event revolves around a river parade. The Arneson River will become the highway for these floats, which will carry costumed revelers as well as live entertainment. The river parade is expected to last about two hours, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. The parade route stretches two and a half miles, essentially spanning the downtown area of the River Walk. Floats will be festively decorated, and those riding on the floats will be in costumes.
The Arneson River Theatre will also be hosting live music and entertainment from 1:00 to 6:00 pm, although the lineup of entertainment has not yet been announced. This event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to dress up and wear beads for the event.
The Hyatt Regency Hotel is one of the sponsors of this event. Without Corporate Gifts, events like this one are difficult to put together. Sponsors allow communities a chance to enjoy free events like this.
Those in downtown San Antonio, near the riverfront, will likely encounter increased traffic and more difficult parking. There are multiple parking garages in the area, as well as at least one open-air lot.
This event is currently scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 2.
