San Antonio celebrates 300 years

This year marks San Antonio’s tercentennial, and the city plans to celebrate – and usher in 2019 – in a big way this year.

Celebrate SA is the official New Year’s Eve celebration of the City of San Antonio. It draws about 50,000 people per year and is the largest free celebration in all of Texas. This event will feature live music, fireworks, and more.

Live music will range from Rolling Stones tributes to western-soul to classic country. There will also be DJs performing throughout the night. Many of the DJs are locals, as are the bands. There will be two primary stages: the Hemisfair stage and, in Maverick Plaza, the Bud Light DJ Lounge.

There will be family-friendly programming, games, music, and fun from 6 to 9 pm. One of these spaces is the ‘Celebrate Family’ Zone, located on Villita St. Another is the Arneson River Theater. The Yanaguana Garden will be open all night.

The night will wrap up with a communal countdown to midnight, and then a fireworks display at the Tower of Americas. Officially, the event ends at about 12:15 am. This will be a busy event, so guests are advised to plan their parking beforehand.
