Mothers-to-be have their own store opening in San Antonio

Expectant mothers now have a store dedicated exclusively to them and all their needs, as Mommy Time, an organization that wants to make pregnancy a calm and joyous experience, has opened in North San Antonio.

The store offers a full range of services to pamper an expectant mother, and has plenty on offer for new mothers as well. Among the facilities are massages, yoga, and a variety of classes to help women cope with the profound changes pregnancy brings. Classes include ‘Pregnancy 101’, which helps women maintain a healthy lifestyle while they are pregnant. There are also classes in preparing for childbirth, caring for newborns, and breastfeeding.

One of the more unusual offerings at Mommy Time is the help of a ‘doula’ – a term that apparently goes back to the ancient Greeks and indicates a woman who assists with a birth, though not medically. A doula may give massages, bring water, hold the mother’s hand, talk to her, or provide emotional and physical support in other ways. The doula defers to nurses and doctors in all cases, but studies have shown when a doula assists, requests for epidurals drop by approximately 60%, and the need for Caesarean sections is halved.

Since it offers so many services, Mommy Time could work with brochure printers to develop a handout explaining all the options to its clients. The new store is located at 1723 N. Loop 1604 E., Suite 110 and is open 9:00 am – 7:00 pm Monday to Friday, and 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturdays.
