Apartment complex to replace Quarry Golf Club clubhouse

Embrey Partners, a residential developer based in San Antonio, is in the early planning stages of a project to be located at the Quarry Golf Club. According to an item in the San Antonio Express-News, the developer is under contract to purchase the clubhouse and restaurant at the golf course and build an apartment complex on the site.

Although Embrey is just beginning its work on the design of the complex, Robert W. Hunt, the company's executive vice president in charge of development, says he believes there will be approximately 222 units. The upscale complex will be sited on a property comprising three acres on Basse Road. The location is next to apartments Embrey built in 1997, and about one quarter-mile from the Alamo Quarry Market.

Hunt called the location an “urban infill-type,” that is vibrant, exciting, and attracts residents from outside the city, as well as from other areas of San Antonio.

For its part, the club intends to move its clubhouse and put up a parking structure on the west side of the golf course. Embrey will appear before the San Antonio Planning Commission on July 13 to ask for permission to build its project. That will require a change in designation from park space to “high-density mixed use.”
