Plano kids offered introduction to cookery camp

Knowing how to prepare a meal can be a valuable life skill for kids to have, and during July and August, Plano families will be offered an opportunity to help them get started.

The participants in the Young Chefs camp will be gaining confidence in the kitchen by learning cookery basics. It is intended for youngsters from ages 7 to 11, and the classes will be co-ed.

Campers will be introduced to cooking and baking techniques that they will be able to build on as they learn, and safety will be at the forefront. Measuring, mixing and other skills will be taught, and the kids will prepare dishes ranging from cupcakes to bread and holiday treats. A materials fee of $15 will be collected from each participant at the beginning of the activity’s first scheduled day.

Kids often enjoy learning new skills, and in cookery class, they get to eat the fruits of their labor. Recipe cards and other items for a course or class can be sourced from area Stationery printers, which can even laminate them so they will be easy to wipe clean.

The Carpenter Park Recreation Center has made plans to host this activity on Friday evenings from July 22 until August 19. The registration fee to be a part of the workshop series starts at $55.
