Plano homeschoolers enjoy fun on farm

The tale “Charlotte’s Web” tells the story of how a humble garden “writing spider” saves the life of her best friend, and it will be the theme for an activity open to Plano homeschooling families.

Plano’s Heritage Farmstead Museum will be offering hearty "salutations" to the kids in its Charlotte’s Web themed Homeschool Days session. It will provide a hands-on introduction to agriculture while also building literacy skills, and there's lots of activities on its agenda.

The attendees will be invited to meet a variety of craftspeople who will be demonstrating various activities that were part of farm life at the time the book was set. There will be chores to do such as washing laundry, feeding chickens, plowing a field and milking “Buttermilk”, which is the venue’s mechanical milking machine. There will be games and animals to meet, including Poncho the donkey and some friendly turkeys, and a wagon ride will round out the day. The families are welcome to bring a picnic if they wish.

Giving young people a chance to learn about farming and agriculture can give them an appreciation for where the food on their plate comes from. Activity sheets, stickers, key chains and other small Promotional Products for an activity will be available for ordering from area Print shops.

These two hours on the farm will run from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on October 7th. At the time this was prepared, passes to participate were still available.
