Plano workshop to explore food gardening options

A Plano area workshop hopes to show that it is often no more difficult to grow fruit and vegetables for the table than any other type of gardening, and even more rewarding.

The organizers of a learning opportunity on offer for the community explained that pupils in their class will discover how fruit and vegetable plantings can be incorporated into a typical landscape design. They noted that doing so is often a fun activities for all family members to take part in, and they will have the satisfaction of being able to eat the fruits of their labor.

The participants are set to learn plant husbandry tips from a horticultural professional, and fruits, herbs, vegetables and other food plants are all on the agenda. They will also find out which species and cultivars – while they may be grown primarily for their flowers, foliage, or other ornamental aspects – are also edible.

It was noted that each registrant in the class will go home with a list of the top 100 edible plants for the home landscape. Stationery printers will be able to prepare items like these.

The Eat the Yard: Foodscaping workshop will welcome interested learners on Thursday, August 26. Hosted by Rooted In, the class will run for two hours at 305 Century Parkway in Allen, starting at 6:00 pm.
