Plano class to create new crop of needle crafters

Sewing can be a valuable life skill to have, and young people in Plano who would like to gain some experience with a needle and thread are being invited to register for an upcoming workshop series.

Starting in mid-July, the Carpenter Park Recreation Center will be running a series of classes that will introduce the basics of sewing. The group will be working with the sewing machines provided, and everyone will walk away with two projects they have crafted for themselves.

The learners will be taught the fundamentals of sewing, right from the first step of choosing the right fabric and notions, such as zippers, thread, buttons, and decorations, to finishing the final seam. They will learn how to read a pattern and transfer it to the fabrics they are working with, as well as zipper installation. Each of the classes will run for one and a half hours.

While the registrants will not need to bring their own machine, they will need to purchase their fabric, patterns, and notions. Stationery printers are sometimes called upon to create registration Forms and waivers for learning activities similar to this one.

This chance for Plano’s young people to pick up a skill they can enjoy all their life will begin on July 18th. The classes will be held every Tuesday evening until the series wraps up on August 16th.
