Gardening is a hobby that can benefit both people and the environment, and those who participate in an upcoming McAllen workshop will learn a planting approach that attracts butterflies and other pollinators.
A series of learning opportunities focused on gardening has been organized for the community, and one taking place in mid-March will introduce the principle of planting for pollinators. Texas Master Gardener Bill Rich will share his knowledge, and registration is required to secure a seat.
During the activity, Rich will discuss his own butterfly garden, the inspiration behind it, and how he put it all together. Tips will be shared about plant and cultivar choice, siting a planting, and what to include so that it makes a happy home for butterflies. For as long as supplies last, attendees will receive a free plant to take home to help them get started.
When gardening can be an enjoyable pastime, not everyone is gifted with a green thumb. Taking part in a workshop can teach someone new skills and techniques, and flyer printing companies will be happy to provide an assortment of marketing options.
This introduction to the art of butterfly gardening will be offered to the public on Saturday, March 16 at 4001 North 23rd Street in McAllen. Everyone who registers is asked to be in their seat by 3:00 pm.
