McAllen workshop for front line healthcare staff

Organ donation can be a lifesaving practice. Those who work in the healthcare field and who would like to add to their skill set around the donation process can do so as part of a daylong McAllen workshop.

Whether they are a doctor nurse, social worker, chaplain or other front-line health care worker, those who deal with organ donation may find that the seminar offered by the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance is helpful to them. It will be focused on best practices in the field and give the participants a chance to sharpen their skills.

The learners in the session will learn about organ donation from a variety of perspectives, and they will walk away with knowledge and other resources. They will explore the regulations that apply to tissue and organ harvesting, the standards that govern the practice, the referral process and also how to approach the family at a time that may be very difficult for them.

To help provide an even greater understanding of the issues surrounding donation, the day will be rounded out with a panel discussion that includes families and recipients of a transplant. A printing services company can provide printed learning materials for this sort of occasion, and the learners can add them to their own personal library of resource materials.

McAllen Heart Hospital has reserved September 4th for its Best Practice in Organ and Tissue Donation workshop. It is free to be included in the day.
