McAllen walk to put the fun in fundraising
COVID-19 has meant many fundraising events have had to be rescheduled, but the planners of the annual Rio Grande Valley Walk to Defeat ALS have risen to the occasion.
This fundraiser, which raises money to help fight Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) was originally scheduled to be an in-person event, but its organizers have made the decision to convert it to an online format for safety reasons. The good news is that people can take part in McAllen or anywhere else in Texas, and they will all be doing their walk on the same day.
Those who would like to get involved in the activity can choose to run, walk, roll, or even drive, and everyone is encouraged to make their celebration unique. Each team who registers will receive a Walk Day Kit to help them get off to a start, and it will be filled with materials such as party favors, streamers, balloons, a magnet featuring a custom graphic design, and other items.
Since this will be the first time that the activity has been organized as a “walk where you are” event, the organizers have added lots of information to its website to aid the participants in creating their own fun experience. It includes details and tips, and the goal is to raise funds as well as awareness.
October 31 will be the date for the Rio Grande Valley Walk to Defeat ALS, and all support will be appreciated. The contact person for the function can be reached at 512-354-4277.
