What's Happening in McAllen, TX…

McAllen fundraiser to show support to local vets

During an event that will be taking to the streets in McAllen, the humble rucksack will be filled with items of special importance.

A 10-kilometer ruck march that will raise both money and other donations for The McAllen Vet Center, which helps veterans in need, will soon be held in the community. The public can lend a hand by making a contribution of cash or nonperishable food, and if they really want to challenge themselves, they can register to take part in the march.

Each person who signs up for this fundraiser is asked to wear either a rucksack or backpack filled with nonperishable food to donate to the cause. While they walk, the weight on their back will also serve as a reminder of the mental load that is often carried by vets even after their period of service is over.

The planners of the activity explained that the marchers and walkers will be able to set their own pace and only have to complete as much of the route as they can. A banner printing company can prepare both start and finish line banners for this sort of occasion as well as a variety of signage that can help to raise public awareness about the event.

This opportunity for McAllen to show its community of veterans that no one will be left behind will be taking place on February 22. The staging area will be located at La Vista Park.
