In an emergency situation, one of the top priorities for a first aider is often to stop heavy bleeding, but not everyone knows how to do so. A McAllen workshop will teach members of the public what to do to save a life, and all members of the public are encouraged to secure their seat now.
During the Stop the Bleed class, a group of learners will discover how they can prevent blood loss until first responders arrive. The organizers explained that as bystanders are usually on the scene before professional help can get involved, this knowledge can be the difference between life and death.
The workshop will take approximately one hour, and each participant will learn the basics of how to stop uncontrolled bleeding. They will walk away with a set of techniques they can draw upon in an emergency, and anyone who would like to find out more about this program is asked to contact Maria Alejandra Ortega at 956-632-4929. She is the RN Injury Prevention Coordinator with the South Texas Health System.
Hosting this sort of workshop can be part of a creating a community that is well prepared for emergencies. Print shops will be able to supply Copies of any handouts that will be distributed as well as wallet cards and certificates that indicate an individual has competed the training.
