When providing first aid, stopping a serious bleed can be one of the top priorities. Not everyone knows how to do this, but a workshop will teach McAllen residents what to do.
The Stop the Bleed class will teach techniques that almost anyone can use to help someone who has been injured, and as death can quickly result from blood loss, this can be a vital skill to have. The workshop is intended for anyone who is willing to learn, and there is no charge to take part.
The class, which will take one hour, will be taught simple ways to stop a bleed, and they will also learn how to use the tools that can help them. The session will be held by Maria Alejandra Ortega, RN, who is the Injury Prevention Coordinator at STHS McAllen.
A workshop like this can teach vital skills, but it can be easy to forget them in an emergency. Equipping each student with a wallet card printing with instructions for preventing blood loss can help to make sure they will remember what to do, and these can be sourced from area Print shops.
