McAllen camp to introduce kids to computer construction

Raspberry Pi systems teach kids the basis of building a computer using hands-on techniques, and a day camp that introduces this technology is on offer for McAllen kids.

The Raspberry Pi and Minecraft Camp being hosted by First RGV HQ will introduce kids to the ins and outs of building a small computer system, as well as the basics of programming. The popular game Minecraft will also be taught, and to help keep the campers safe, social distancing protocols will be followed.

The day will kick off with a check-in, and the attendees will then be split into course groups before they begin the learning. There will be a mid-morning break, and lunch will be served at noon. The afternoon will include more lessons and well as time in the labs, and pickup will begin at 4:00 pm. Booth snacks and lunch are included in the fee, but anyone with allergies or who follows a special diet is welcome to bring theirs from home if they wish.

An experience like this can be both educational and fun, and stationery printers will be able to prepare certificates to give to each camper to show they took part. These provide a fun way for the organizer to recognize their accomplishments, and a printer will be able to custom design theme or the occasion.

The date for this day camp for young techies will be June 8. It will be held at 801 East Fern Avenue.
