Introducing kids to the joys and other benefits of horticulture will soon be easier for Houston educators, as they have been offered seats in an educational event.
Edible Academy is set to run in the city this June, and it will cover summer gardening and also the basics of nutrition education. The sessions will take place over three days, and a field trip will wrap up the series.
These professional development workshops are intended for educators, parents, and others who work with young people, and each of the students will be able to engage in hands-on learning. They will discover a variety of ways for introducing younger learners to sustainability in an age-appropriate way, and everyone will harvest ingredients so they can prepare, plate, and enjoy a lunch.
Along with the in-person learning, everyone will go home with a set of seeds, a copy of Urban Harvest School Garden Guide, and also a variety of other handouts. A brochure printing company will be able to prepare an assortment of materials for educational events.
The Edible Academy will be offering this learning series this month, running from June 20 to 22. Each day will get started at 8:30 am, and the registration fee is $18 per person. It will be offered in person at the Gregory Lincoln Education Center.
