Regatta returns to Houston to usher in spring

The 46th Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta is taking place next month in Houston. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to park restoration from the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The regatta is authorized by the United States Canoe and Kayak Association, and is open to both competitive and recreational paddlers aged 12 and up. It is divided up into various categories with different start times, including recreational kayaks and canoes, non-competitive, and unlimited.

Participants travel 15 miles down the Buffalo Bayou starting at 7700 San Filipe and finishing at Allen’s Landing. Registration fees are $50 for adults until February 22, and $55 after or $60 on the day of the competition. Fees are $30 for students and those with a current military ID. Spectators are admitted free of charge.

The event will be followed by an awards ceremony at Allen’s Landing. There will also be food and drink available for purchase, and entertainment provided by a zydeco band.

Organizers will likely invest in services such as banner printing from a Houston Print company to mark off certain areas such as the starting line.

The Buffalo Bayou Partnership Regatta will be held at Buffalo Bayou Park on March 10 from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. To learn more about this event and how to register, call 713-752-0314 x101.
