Kokedama, which hails from Japan, provides a way to grow plants without soil, and a Houston make and take will provide an introduction to this practice.
The Midweek Make series offers a variety of opportunities to learn a new crafting or planting technique, and a session set for mid-March will provide an introduction to Kokedama. Hosted in the TMC3 Collaborative Building, it will be a hands-on activity, and tickets for the experience start at $12.51.
Attendees will learn how to use moss and other materials to prepare their planting, and it is considered to be a practice that encourages contemplation and relaxation. Katherine Ospina will share her expertise in the practice with the group, and all ages are welcome. Everyone will be able to take their project home with them, and the function is being offered in collaboration with YA Houston. The class will take place during the evening hours.
Activities that include working with live plants can be both fun and informative. Organizers often choose to distribute care tip sheets to the participants so they can provide their new green friend with lots of TLC, and those can be prepared by local Print shops.
This introduction to the art and science of kokedama classes is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 pm on March 11th. At the time this was written, tickets were still available for purchase.
