Houston works to save the earth for 10th year

The 10th Annual Earth Day Festival will take place in Houston in spring of 2015.

The USA recognizes the efforts of modern environmental improvement that began in 1970. The celebration continues throughout the country on April 22 every year.

The national holiday began when activists and concerned citizens realized environmental issues were not considered or being addressed. On April 22, 1970, college students led peaceful demonstrations as politicians united on addressing pollution and other issues affecting the environment. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was formed and the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Acts were passed.

Earth Day began as a small event in Houston a decade ago with a 5K run and a small expo. Soon, an art contest using recycling goods was added to the event and it was labeled the ‘Earth Day Art Contest’.

This year the contest has raised over $5,000 for school art programs in the community as well as awarding cash prizes to up and coming young artists.

Festival organizers often call upon local Print companies to assist in preparing materials for the event. Poster and flyer printing are standard supplies needed to promote the festival. The Posters can be hung throughout the area while the Flyers can be distributed in advance of the event to cultivate interest.
