Houston rings in Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year celebration is taking place in Houston in just a few days’ time.

This year will be the Year of the Rooster, and this is to be the largest celebration in the state.

There are set to be two days of celebration, which will take place in Chinatown. There will be several lion and dragon dances, martial arts demonstrations from the Shaolin Temple and Voviman Martial Arts, and drum performances. Other activities will be a display of Korean classical dance, fireworks, and an exhibit of Lucky Red Firecrackers. Some of the groups performing this year will include the La Vang Church Lion Dancers and the Lasallian Youth Troupe.

There will also be a kids’ zone that will feature inflatables, games, and arts activities. In addition, vendors will be selling a variety of commercial merchandise and food, while nonprofit organizations will be providing information about their programs and services to the community.

It is likely that organizers will be investing in products such as Banners to let the Houston public know the names of some of the performers.

The Lunar New Year Houston celebration will be held in and around the Viet Hoa Center this weekend, February 4 and 5, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM each day. Admission is free of charge. For the most up-to-date information about planned activities, contact Glenda Joe at 713-861-8270.
