Festival helps raise funds for arts education in Houston

The 45th annual Bayou City Art Festival is taking place for two days next month in Houston, and will be presented by the Art Colony Association, Inc.

Funds raised by this festival help to support several local nonprofit arts programs; so far it has raised over $3.5m.

There will be more than 300 artists representing 19 different media; they come from all over the country to participate. Items that will be available for purchase will include paintings, prints, sculpture, jewelry, and ceramics. This year’s featured artist is Dania Olivares.

Several nonprofit organizations will also be on hand to provide information about their services as well as hands-on art projects. Two of the organizations that will be participating in the festival are Print Matters and the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA), both of which might interest those with a fondness for graphic design.

Other activities will include musical entertainment and a Children’s Creative Zone, which will feature art activities and games. Food will be available for purchase from concessions and food trucks.

There are still openings for volunteers, who may be asked to hand out guides that may have been provided by a Houston Stationery printing company.

The Bayou City Art Festival will be held downtown from October 8 to 9 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 pm each day. Tickets are $15 in advance or $17 at the door, or $5 for children between the ages of 6 and 12. Call 713-521-0133 to learn more.
