Festival celebrates Nigerian independence

The 4th annual Nigeria Cultural Parade and Festival is taking place this October in Houston, presented by Culturally Naija and WeLead, Inc.

This year, the festival will be celebrating the 60th year of Nigerian Independence. It will feature over 20 different cultural groups that will be performing music and dances, providing food, and giving fashion shows related to the West African nation. In terms of food, there will be many traditional dishes, including Jollof rice. It will also feature speaker Robert O. Peters.

Applications are still being accepted for parade participants and vendors. For the parade, the fees are $200 for a business and $75 for a nonprofit organization; using a car is $75 extra. For vendors, the cost is $200 for businesses and $150 for non-profits.

All attendees will receive a souvenir booklet; advertising is for sale from $20 up to $150. Sponsorships are also available.

Many different ethnicities are living in Houston and residents who want to know about all of them will be very happy to attend this one. Stationary printers are often asked to provide advertising materials to help spread the word.

The parade and festival will be held at Root Memorial Square on October 3 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Admission is free of charge. To become a sponsor, a vendor or to learn more about this event, call 832-365-7983.
