Grapevine theater offers post-Christmas movie

After the big day, the Palace Theater here in Grapevine will be showing four movies that feature Christmas romantic comedies.

The first after-Christmas movie – starring Judy Garland, Mary Astor, and Margaret O'Brien – is "Meet Me in St. Louis." It depicts a year in the life of the upper-middle class Smith family cumulating in them attending the 1903 World's Fair. The movie will be shown on Friday, December 27, beginning at 3:00 pm.

That same Friday evening at 7:00 pm, the movie "Serendipity," starring Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack, will feature a story of two people falling in love, separating, and looking for each other years later.

On Saturday, December 28 at 3:00 pm, the theater will present "Christmas in Connecticut,” a 1945 film starring Barbara Stanwyck and Dennis Morgan. Journalist Elizabeth Lang, a famous food writer who is purporting to be a farmwoman but is actually an unmarried New Yorker who cannot cook, gets roped into having her boss and a heroic sailor visiting her imaginary home for Christmas.

At 7:00 pm that evening, the movie will be "The Shop Around the Corner." This 1940 classic stars James Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. Two people employed at the same gift shop despise each other at work, yet fall in love through pen-pal letters.

Old movies like these have been the subject of many Posters over the years, and poster printing companies will be able to bring their promotional materials into the modern era while still retaining their traditional charm.

Admission will be $10 per film, and the Palace Theater is located at 300 S Main Street.
