Grapevine will have some opportunities to get outside and enjoy the weather at Nash Farm during April.
For those who enjoy kite flying, the farm will hold a kite-making workshop on April 5 from 10:00 am until noon, as part of its First Friday at the Farm series. For $3, guests can make a paper kite like those constructed back in the 19th Century. This event is for ages 3 and up.
The Farm will have spring “bustin’ out all over” with its 18th annual Spring into Nash event coming later in the month. This event will focus on the lives of Grapevine’s earliest settlers, and will be on Saturday, April 13, from 10:00 am until 2:00 am at Nash Farm, 626 Ball Street.
Kids can view heritage toys, while their parents can take a look at kitchen gardening, see how cotton was planted, fields were cultivated, and farm animals were raised. Everyone can get rides on the tractor-drawn wagon.
There will be demonstrations, with one about wood carving, and another showing guests how settlers made jump rope. Other demonstrations will include how to cook on a wood-burning stove and blacksmithing. Pictures taken at events such as this are usually put into the host’s brochure printing.
Finally, on April 27, the Farm will present Farm to Fork, which is a 19th-Century tasting experience. The reception in the farmhouse will include culinary stations and supper will be served in the meadow.
