Grapevine Botanical Gardens will be all aflutter with its annual Dance of the Monarch Butterfly Flutterby coming in mid-October.
This will be the 27th time the migration of monarch butterflies is being celebrated at Heritage Park's Botanical Gardens.
All Grapevine residents and their well-behaved pets are invited to attend this free event. Some activities will include live butterfly releases, a costume contest, an art contest hosted by the Grapevine Garden Club, and an arts and crafts station. Guests may purchase snacks. The event will also have a science station, an exhibit called "Butterflies Around the World," and plenty of photo opportunities.
Attendees will be checking out butterfly merchandise and viewing the 22-foot colorful Transition to Beauty sculpture that stands at the entrance of the gardens. Garden attendees often use this sculpture for their photo shoots.
The town of Grapevine has long played a significant role in the preservation of the monarch butterfly by providing community gardens, municipal buildings, public parks, and median strips with nectar plants and milkweed to help build monarch habitats. The city also encourages its citizens to do the same in their gardens and yards.
Stationery printers are always looking for pictures of monarchs and other attractive butterflies to use on their notecard sets.
Dance of the Monarch will be Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Heritage Park's Grapevine Botanical Gardens, 200 Ball Street.
