Annual monarch butterfly release at two locations
The Botanical Gardens is gearing up for its 23rd Annual Butterfly Flutterby event coming in mid-October. The event will celebrate the Monarch migration from Canada to Mexico and its stopover here in Grapevine.
The festivities consist of a parade and activities. Grapevine families are invited to call in at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens to enjoy a costume contest and a parade. Children wishing to be in the contest must first register and receive assigned numbers for the parade.
The 45-minute Butterfly costume parade will begin at 10:00 am at Main and West Hudgins Streets. The route will be about ¾ of a mile. Little ones will be allowed in strollers and prizes will be awarded after the parade. Registration will begin at 8:45 am.
Pictures of little ones at events such as this often go to local stationery printers to become notecards or part of family yearly calendars.
Afterwards the Botanical Gardens will have butterfly crafts and exhibits including the Migration Station. It will also feature face painting, a scavenger hunt, and interactive games. Grapevine/Colleyville Independent School District will have its Art Contest entries on display.
Release of butterflies will take place at the gardens at 10:45 am and 11:45 am, with another one at 12:30 pm. The 20th Nash Farm’s Annual Fall Round-up will release the last batch.
Butterfly Flutterby will be Saturday, October 17 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Grapevine Botanical Gardens, 411 Ball St.
