Frisco green thumbs to choose native species

Frisco gardeners who would like to maximize the environmental benefits of their own personal plot may find an upcoming workshop valuable.

A session that will introduce local green thumbs to the benefits of choosing native plants is now open for registration. There is no admission fee being charged for this in-person activity, and it will run for two hours.

The group will be led through a discussion of why using native plants can be so beneficial, including how they attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other local pollinators. They will also find out how they offer other perks such as enhanced disease and drought resistance, and tend to be low-maintenance while still being as attractive as introduced cultivars. Tips will be shared for incorporating these plants into a variety of garden styles ranging from natural to formal, and other topics will be reviewed during the course of the workshop.

An activity of this type often attracts both newbie and experienced gardeners. Presenting each with a horticulture journal paired with promotional Pens will make it easier for them to make notes and keep their own little patch in top shape.

This opportunity to discover the benefits that go hand in hand with choosing native plants will take place on Thursday, September 16. The session will be held at 305 Century Parkway in Frisco.
